At The Kid Lit Foundation, we believe every African child has a powerful story to tell. The KLF Mentorship Program is our flagship initiative designed to nurture young African writers and illustrators aged 8–16, equipping them with the tools, confidence, and mentorship needed to become the storytellers of tomorrow.

Storytelling shapes culture, identity, and imagination. Through our mentorship program, we’re cultivating voice, creativity, and the power to inspire change through words and visuals.

What is the KLF Mentorship Program?

The KLF Mentorship Program is a structured, immersive, multi-phase journey that supports young creatives through every stage of storytelling — from concept to creation to performance.

In 2025, over five weeks, mentees received expert guidance in:

Creative Writing

Illustration

Editing

Public Speaking

Brainstorming Story Ideas,

Building characters and compelling plots,

Learning narrative structure and storytelling techniques.

Exploring visual storytelling,

Learning how to match words with pictures,

Enhancing storytelling impact through imagery.

Strengthening clarity and consistency,
Learning the art of self-editing and revising, Working with real editors for manuscript polish.

Gaining confidence to present their stories aloud,

Developing strong communication and stage presence,

Engaging audiences with authenticity

Over the course of the program, mentees created complete picture books, built lasting confidence, and developed practical creative skills guided by a team of experienced mentors.

KLF Mentorship Program

This mentorship covers the foundations of picture book writing, editing, illustrating and public speaking, over 5 Saturdays, from the 3rd Saturday in January to the 2nd Saturday in February. Sessions will be interactive, creative, and structured to help you develop strong storytelling skills

Program Fee and Registration Confirmation

Programme Fee: ₦50,000 per participant This fee covers:

5 weeks of guided mentorship with KLF facilitators
Workshop activities and learning support
Access to session materials and final showcase participation

Payment will be made at the end of this form.

Capacity Notice: Spaces are limited to 25–50 mentees and will be allocated on a first-confirmed basis.
